Is that possible? Isn’t it such a big a bulky item that it can only be delivered from a local company?

Not anymore, with the advent of online shopping, shipping methods have adjusted and improved to be able to handle large oversize items. If you are like most people you don’t have the pick-up truck or you hate to ask your friend to borrow theirs again. This way it’s shipped right to your door with no hassle. It’s amazing what can be delivered via the Internet these days.

Okay, we’ve overcome the obvious shipping issue, but what about all those negative rumors you hear about purchasing items online? Well, let’s go through a couple;

Myth 1. Never give your credit card number to a website through your computer. FALSE! The internet has never been as secure as it is now. In fact, the merchant don’t even have access to your number, only the bank that actually processes the transaction. And with today 128 bit encryption technology, there is no such thing as intercepting the transaction and deciphering the code anymore, there’s just too many digits to go through, even for a computer. Your credit card number is far more exposed when giving this number over the phone, which many people have absolutely no problems doing.

Myth 2. The company might not exist and just take your money. Not if you know what to look for. First, is there a Better Business Bureau Seal anywhere on the homepage of the site? If yes, that means this company isn’t running anywhere. The testing a company goes through in order to get this recommendation is just too stringent. Any company that is not “real” would be exposed immediately.

Also, look for a phone number, especially a toll-free one. This indicates that the company is serious about being able to help their customers. Be wary of a “contact page” that only allows email. Call the number if you have any doubts. I’ve done this myself on many occasions before I gave my credit card number. I simply told them I wanted to see if I could talk to a real person and that the company actually exists.

Myth 3. You still pay state sales tax on your purchase no matter what anymore. FALSE! Yes, the US federal government has made some proposals regarding this very issue, but there has been no movement in Congress to try and force online sales transactions to abide by the state sales tax. So, as of right now, as long as the retailer has their business legally set up in a state other than the one you live in, you pay no state sales tax. And with some larger purchases, this can add up to some significant savings.

Don’t be afraid to make a purchase online, especially one as large as a , hundreds of people make these large purchases every day. With great shipping policies and excellent customer support it’s no wonder the top retailers on the Internet have created huge empires doing what they do best, selling over the Internet.
